About the Role

As a Receiving Clerk at Food Lover’s Market, you will be a crucial part of our stock and inventory operations, ensuring that every item is accounted for and meets our high-quality standards. Key Responsibilities

As a Receiving Clerk, your primary responsibilities will include:

Efficiently Unloading and Receiving Goods: You will manage the unloading of goods with care and efficiency, handling everything from produce to packaged items and frozen goods. Using a forklift when needed, you’ll ensure that all products are handled safely and quickly, ready for stocking. Validating Product Quantities and Documentation: You will closely check incoming stock against delivery notes and order requests, ensuring that every product is accounted for accurately. This includes verifying quantities and checking for any discrepancies between what was ordered and what has been delivered.

Inspecting Product Quality: Product quality is essential at Food Lover’s Market, and as a Receiving Clerk, you’ll visually inspect all incoming goods to verify that they meet our standards. You’ll play an active role in ensuring that damaged or substandard items are flagged, addressed, and logged for follow-up, ensuring our customers receive only the best. Conducting Food Safety Temperature Checks: Adherence to food safety standards is critical, especially for refrigerated and frozen items. You will conduct temperature checks on relevant deliveries in line with the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) to maintain compliance and quality assurance.

Issuing Credit Notes for Inaccurate or Substandard Stock: In cases where goods do not meet our standards in quality or quantity, you will issue credit notes and manage returns. This process is vital for maintaining our commitment to quality and ensuring that inventory records are accurate. Coordinating with the Inventory Team for Seamless Stock Rotation and Management: Collaboration with the inventory team is essential in maintaining our stock levels and ensuring that products are available when customers need them. You will work closely with other team members to keep inventory moving efficiently and effectively from the backroom to the sales floor.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should bring the following qualifications and skills:

Educational Background: Completion of Grade 10-12 (Matric) is required. Experience: Previous experience in receiving or inventory management, preferably within a retail setting, is essential. Forklift Certification: A valid forklift operator’s certification is advantageous, as some of the unloading will require safe forklift handling. Excellent Communication Skills: Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential for understanding orders, communicating with team members, and maintaining accurate records.

Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail will be necessary as you handle inventory and ensure that every item meets our quality standards. Knowledge of Food Safety Standards: Familiarity with food safety regulations is a plus, as you’ll be working with perishable goods and must uphold hygiene standards.

Work Environment and Schedule

Shift Schedule: This position requires 8-hour shifts, spread over 6 shifts per week. Compensation: To be discussed during the interview process, with hourly rates based on experience.
