General Worker – Water and Sanitation Maintenance
Type: Full-time, Non-renewal contract
Salary: R4,356 per month

Join our team as a General Worker in the Economic Development Department’s Water and Sanitation Maintenance division. This position offers an opportunity to make a positive impact on the city’s water and sewer networks.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate in maintenance, repair, and new construction projects related to water and sewer networks. Utilize tools like pick and shovel for excavations and follow provided instructions diligently. Prepare groundwork for the installation of reticulation pipes. Perform backfilling and compaction using appropriate tools. Participate in quality assurance inspections for basic services.
Address and follow up on customer complaints, ensuring their concerns are effectively resolved. Execute cleaning tasks within sewer pumps, removing debris and foreign objects. Adhere to stringent safety standards and regulations at all times. Contribute to general handy work and routine maintenance as required. Operate and maintain plant machinery, mechanical equipment, tools, and work sites with a focus on safety.
Maintain cleanliness in the workplace, including work areas, ablution facilities, and offices. Ensure strict compliance with all applicable legislation, by-laws, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Minimum educational attainment of Grade 10. Valid South African Identity Document. Residency in the City of Ekurhuleni. Physical ability to perform the required tasks effectively.
NQF level applicable to qualifications must be provided as proof when requested. Applicants should not be active in the CoE HR System at the program’s commencement.
Note: This position is part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).
