Role Overview: Cashier
As a Cashier, you’ll be responsible for creating a welcoming, efficient checkout experience for every customer. Your focus will be on accurately handling Point of Sale (POS) transactions, managing cash, ensuring proper record-keeping, and providing top-notch service that aligns with Cashbuild’s mission of excellence.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Cash Handling and Transaction Processing
Accurate Cash Management: Manage all cash transactions efficiently, including handling cash-ups, maintaining a sufficient change supply, and ensuring secure deposits. You’ll be responsible for tracking all transactions to prevent shortages or overages. Inventory Control at POS: Properly identify and scan items at the POS terminal, ensuring inventory is accurately tracked and accounted for in real time.
Payment Processing: Handle and verify multiple payment types, ensuring they are correctly recorded on the POS system. Process transactions related to other stores’ money, deliveries, and customer quotes as needed. Pickups and Cash-Ups: Execute pickups and cash-ups according to Cashbuild’s procedures, ensuring all cash collected is securely deposited in the drop safe or vault at the end of each shift.
Administrative and Record-Keeping Duties
Document Management: Maintain accurate records by signing, compiling, and filing all necessary cashier-related documentation. “Ready for Business” Protocol: Follow the Cashbuild “Ready for Business” and “Beyond my Control” procedures to ensure operational efficiency and customer readiness.
Customer Service Excellence
Friendly and Efficient Service: Offer a warm, efficient checkout process, making each customer feel valued. Direct customers to the relevant departments or team members who can assist them, ensuring a seamless shopping experience. Professional Appearance: Adhere to Cashbuild’s dress code, presenting a professional appearance that aligns with our company values.
Compliance with Safety Standards (OHSA)
Customer and Staff Safety: As a Cashier, you’ll uphold all safety requirements as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), prioritizing a safe environment for both staff and customers. Reporting Safety Concerns: Promptly report any safety discrepancies or concerns to the Store Manager to maintain a secure shopping environment.
Security Awareness and Practices
Password Control and Secure Handling of Cash: Adhere to Cashbuild’s security protocols, including password control and careful management of cash at the till point. Safely transport cash to the cash office in compliance with Cashbuild procedures.
Minimum Requirements for Success
To excel in this role, you’ll need the following qualifications and skills:
Education: A minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent is required. Experience: At least one year of experience in a related cashier or retail role is preferred. Language Proficiency: Ability to communicate fluently in both English and the primary language spoken in the area. Math Skills: A strong aptitude for basic calculations is essential for cash handling.
Administrative Skills: Proficiency in administrative tasks and record-keeping, with strong attention to detail. Availability: Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays, is required. Stress Management: Ability to remain calm and composed while working in a busy, high-pressure environment.
