Introduction:
The Mine Health and Safety Council (MHSC) is seeking a Security Officer to ensure the implementation of the Mine Health and Safety Strategy (MISS) document, as required by the Cabinet for all public entities. The primary responsibility of this role is to maintain the physical security of MHSC assets.
Duties & Responsibilities:
As the Security Officer, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Premises Patrol: Conduct regular patrols of the premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion, ensuring the security of doors, windows, and gates. Alarm Response: Respond to alarms and investigate disturbances, taking appropriate action. Access Control: Monitor and authorize the entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other individuals to prevent theft and maintain premises’ security.
Incident Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on security-related activities and irregularities, including equipment or property damage, theft, unauthorized presence, or unusual incidents. Emergency Response: Take action during emergencies, such as fires or unauthorized access, by contacting the police or fire departments.
Crowd Control: Circulate among visitors, patrons, and employees to maintain order and protect property. Warn individuals of rule violations and take necessary actions, including eviction or the use of force if required. Security Screening: Operate detecting devices to screen individuals and prevent the passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas.
Equipment Inspection: Inspect and adjust security systems, equipment, and machinery to ensure operational readiness and detect any signs of tampering. Investigations: Assist in investigations related to security matters. Threat Assessment: Notify management of any impending threats to the general safety and security at MHSC.
Security Policy Development: Coordinate and implement security and facilities functions, developing and enhancing security policies and procedures to adapt to changing circumstances. Risk and Threat Identification: Identify all risks and threats to the organization’s security, as well as vulnerabilities in its capacity to counter these risks, based on security planning.
Law Enforcement Liaison: Coordinate the investigation of security matters with various law enforcement agencies at local levels, maintaining liaison with these agencies to ensure a prompt response to the organization’s needs. Health and Safety: Implement health and safety practices and fulfill the role of the health and safety officer within the organization.
Desired Experience & Qualification:
To excel in this role, the following qualifications and experience are required:
Matric: Possession of a Matric certificate. Grade A Security Qualification: Relevant Grade A security qualification. National Certificate in Security Management: Certification in security management. Registration: Registration with the Security Officers Board is essential. Experience: At least 1/2 years of experience in office security.
Package & Remuneration:
The salary for this role is negotiable, with a base salary of R418,232.13. The final salary will be determined during the negotiation process.

Job Summary: The role of an undercover security guard is crucial for discreetly monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of the premises, its patrons, and staff. These security personnel will be required to perform duties in various roles, such as waiters, to effectively observe and mitigate potential security risks.
Key Responsibilities:
Surveillance and Monitoring: Actively observe and discreetly monitor activities within the establishment to identify any suspicious behavior or potential security threats. Employ various surveillance techniques to maintain a constant vigil over designated areas. Customer Service: Perform duties in the role of a waiter, ensuring excellent customer service and patron satisfaction while adhering to security protocols.
Risk Identification and Mitigation: Identify potential security risks, including but not limited to theft, vandalism, or disruptive behavior, and take appropriate action to prevent incidents. Crisis Intervention: Respond promptly and effectively to security-related incidents or emergencies, taking necessary steps to ensure the safety of individuals and property.
Communication: Maintain effective communication with fellow security personnel and relevant departments to relay pertinent information and collaborate on security measures. Adherence to Protocols: Strictly adhere to established security protocols, guidelines, and procedures to maintain a high level of security at all times.
Incident Reporting: Document all security incidents, observations, and actions taken in a detailed and accurate manner, following organizational reporting procedures. Collaboration and Teamwork: Collaborate with fellow security personnel and other departments to promote a cohesive and secure operational environment.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- PSIRA Grade A Certificate.
- Firearm competency (handgun).
- Previous experience in security or a related field is advantageous.
- Excellent observational and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and act discreetly.
