JOB PURPOSE

The primary purpose of the Retail Sales Associate position is to assist management with the day-to-day running of the store while delivering a high standard of customer service. The successful applicant will help customers select suitable products, support sales targets and maintain the appearance and organisation of the store. The role also requires compliance with company policies, accurate transaction processing and responsible handling of merchandise and other company assets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SALES

Providing excellent customer service is a key responsibility of the Retail Sales Associate.

Duties include:

Welcome customers and assist them in finding suitable products. Provide helpful information about products, including relevant technical features. Use appropriate selling techniques to recommend additional products and increase sales. Identify customer needs and help them make informed purchasing decisions. Support store and individual sales targets. Assist as a greeter at the store entrance during busy periods when required. Maintain a professional, friendly and welcoming approach to every customer.

2. SALES TRANSACTIONS AND POINT-OF-SALE OPERATIONS

The successful candidate will assist with processing customer purchases accurately.

Responsibilities include:

Process sales involving cash, credit cards, cheques or other accepted payment methods, as applicable. Develop proficiency in using the store’s point-of-sale (POS) system. Follow established procedures when handling transactions. Maintain accuracy and integrity when processing sales. Observe company policies and procedures throughout all cashiering activities.

3. STOCK MANAGEMENT AND MERCHANDISING

The Retail Sales Associate will assist with maintaining product availability and presentation throughout the store.

Duties include:

Support product movement from the stockroom to the sales floor when required. Assist with product ticketing and checking relevant paperwork against received items. Help replenish merchandise and maintain organised product displays. Set up displays according to instructions or schedules provided by store management. Ensure merchandise is presented appropriately and the sales floor remains organised.

4. LOSS PREVENTION AND ASSET PROTECTION

Protecting company stock and assets is an important part of the position.

Responsibilities include:

• Safeguard company merchandise and other assets.
• Follow store procedures designed to reduce stock losses and shrinkage.
• Handle products and equipment responsibly.
• Maintain integrity and accountability when carrying out assigned duties.

5. HOUSEKEEPING AND STORE MAINTENANCE

The successful applicant will help maintain a clean, orderly and professional retail environment.

This includes:

• Maintain general housekeeping standards throughout the store.
• Keep merchandise and displays organised.
• Assist management with routine store maintenance activities.
• Ensure the sales floor remains presentable and ready to serve customers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Education: Matric certificate.
• Work experience: Between one and three years of retail experience.
